Employee Volunteerism Fuels Habitat Restoration Efforts in Midland County
MIDLAND, MI., Dec. 3, 2024 ¡ª As part of its Clear into the Future program, k8ÓéÀÖ successfully collaborated with Little Forks Conservancy, awarding grants to enhance local ecosystems and promote community volunteerism. The collaboration brought k8ÓéÀÖ employees and community volunteers together to plant over 580 native trees and shrubs across two nature preserves in Midland County.
The Clear into the Future program exceeded its initial goal of planting 200 trees, resulting in more than 500 new plantings at the Averill Preserve and Nelson Woods. This year¡¯s efforts also included the removal of invasive plant species, such as autumn olive and buckthorn, to help improve local biodiversity and promote the growth of native ecosystems.
¡°We¡¯re grateful for k8ÓéÀÖ¡¯s support through the Clear into the Future grant, which empowers us to enhance our nature preserves along the Tittabawassee River and build a more resilient future,¡± said Elan Lipschitz, Executive Director of Little Forks Conservancy. ¡°Working alongside k8ÓéÀÖ volunteers, we¡¯re making a tangible difference together in our community.¡±
k8ÓéÀÖ employees volunteered four days of service at Nelson Woods and the Averill Preserve, contributing 60 hours of their time to plant trees, remove invasive species, and construct new trails for future public access. These efforts showcased the employees¡¯ commitment to environmental protection through volunteerism.
